(Healthy) Easter Snacks

(Healthy) Easter Snacks

Easter is often associated with chocolate eggs and sweet treats. Making your own Easter snacks can be fun, but remember that homemade versions aren’t necessarily lower in calories than store-bought ones. However, the benefit is that you know exactly what ingredients you’re using.

Homemade Marzipan

It’s almost impossible to get through the Christmas season without making or eating festive treats. I’m not here to tell you to avoid them completely – everything in moderation is key!

Marzipan is surprisingly easy to make and can be customised with different flavours – the possibilities are endless. It’s also perfect for making homemade Easter eggs.

You’ll need:

  • 200 g blanched almonds
  • 100 ml water
  • 85 g sugar

Instructions:

  1. Bring the water to a boil and dissolve the sugar. Let it cool.
  2. Finely grind the almonds using a blender or food processor.
  3. Gradually add the sugar syrup, mixing until the marzipan comes together. The texture should be moist but not sticky – you may not need all the syrup.
  4. Shape the marzipan into small eggs and dip them in melted dark chocolate. Decorate with freeze-dried raspberries for a finishing touch.

You can experiment with different flavours by adding extracts or using flavoured sugar such as lavender or lemon.

Homemade Nutella

We rarely eat Nutella at home – it’s more of a holiday treat for us. My sister has been making her own Nutella for years and often gifts it as a hostess present. It’s incredibly delicious, easy to make, and of course, a little healthier than store-bought versions.

You’ll need (for two small jars):

  • 200 g milk chocolate
  • 100 g hazelnuts
  • 100 ml heavy cream
  • Approx. 80 g butter
  • A pinch of salt

Instructions:

  1. Roast the hazelnuts in the oven at 200°C for about 10 minutes until the skins crack and can be easily removed.
  2. Blend the hazelnuts into a fine flour using a food processor. Set aside a few whole nuts for decoration.
  3. Finely chop the chocolate and place it in a bowl with the ground hazelnuts.
  4. Heat the cream in a saucepan until it reaches the boiling point, then pour it over the chocolate and hazelnuts. Stir well.
  5. Gradually add the butter to the warm chocolate mixture, stirring continuously.
  6. Add a pinch of salt, mix well, and pour into two small jars.

Snacking doesn’t have to be unhealthy

Easter treats come in many forms – from homemade delights like marzipan and Nutella to healthier alternatives that still satisfy your sweet tooth. The key is to find a balance where you can enjoy Easter traditions while also making choices that align with your lifestyle and needs.
